Official Rules
Version 7 · Effective: September 24, 2026
These Official Rules ("Rules") govern every Renno race that has an entry fee. They are part of, and should be read with, the Terms of Service. If the Terms and these Rules say different things about how a race is scored or paid out, these Rules control for that race.
A race runs under the version of these Rules in force when the race was created. The version you accept is shown at checkout and recorded with your entry. Versions 1 and 2 were the race mechanics stated in Section 4 of the Terms of Service. Version 3 (effective September 19, 2026) set the service fee at 10%. Version 4 (effective September 24, 2026) set it at 15%. Version 5 added Section 6A (rolling your entry into the next race). Version 6 narrows 6A: Renno lines up a next race for you only for the next round of a repeating race you are in; anything else rolls over only if you line it up yourself. Version 7 drops the notice before a repeating race's rollover: joining a repeating race means you keep going until you stop. This version replaces them for races created on or after the effective date above. Section 2A (added October 22, 2026) describes the one no-stakes first race; it involves no payment and changes nothing about paid races.
1. What a race is
A race has a mileage goal, a start date, an end date and an entry fee. Whoever creates the race sets them, and you see all four before you join. Every runner in a race has the same goal.
The goal is the total distance you run between the start and the end of the race. It is not a weekly target: a race that lasts four weeks with a 30 mile goal is cleared by 30 miles across the whole race, however they are spread.
2. Entering a race
- You enter by paying the entry fee at checkout, plus a processing fee that covers payment costs (currently 2.7% of the amount charged to your card plus $0.37). The processing fee is shown before you pay and is not refunded if you leave the race.
- You may pay part or all of the entry fee from your Renno winnings balance. No processing fee is charged on the part paid from winnings.
- If a promotional code is applied to your entry, the code covers part or all of the entry fee on your behalf. The full entry fee still counts toward the prize pool. If you clear the goal, your payout is the normal payout minus the amount the code covered; any refund returns only what you actually paid.
- Renno may limit how many races you can be in at the same time. The app tells you at checkout if you cannot join a race yet.
- Eligibility to use Renno and to enter a paid race is set out in the Terms of Service.
2A. Your first race with no stakes
- Each account may join one public paid race with no stakes. You pay nothing and nothing is on the line, so nothing is paid out to you, whatever your result.
- Only public paid races offer it. Other runners do not see you, and your no-stakes entry adds nothing to the prize pool, the runner count or anyone else's payout.
- You see your place on the race's leaderboard and what you could have won had you paid the entry. That figure is for illustration only; it is never owed or paid.
- The option ends for good once you pay for any public race, whether or not you used it.
- Runs in a no-stakes race are checked under Section 8 like any other run.
3. Clearing the goal
- You clear the goal when your verified miles run during the race reach the goal before the race ends.
- Miles count only from runs recorded through the Renno app, or from workouts the app accepts from a connected source, and only for the part of the run inside the race window.
- Every run is checked on Renno's servers after it is submitted. A run that fails verification does not count toward the goal. If one of your runs is rejected, you can ask for a review from inside the app.
- Rank never matters. The only thing that decides your payout is whether you clear the goal.
4. Payouts
- If you clear the goal, you get your full entry fee back, plus an equal share of the prize pool.
- The prize pool is the entry fees of every runner in the race who did not clear the goal, including runners who left after the race started, less Renno's service fee (Section 5).
- If you miss the goal, you forfeit your entry fee to the prize pool. The processing fee is not returned.
- If nobody in a race clears the goal, there is no one to pay out to, and the forfeited entry fees are retained by Renno.
- Payouts are worked out in whole cents. Where the prize pool does not divide evenly, each clearer's share is rounded up to the next cent and Renno covers the difference.
- Winnings are credited to your Renno winnings balance when the race settles, which normally happens shortly after the race ends, once every run in the race has been verified. You can cash out your balance to a bank account from the app; the minimum cash-out is shown in the app, and transfers can take several business days. You are responsible for any taxes on your winnings, as described in the Terms of Service.
- Renno may hold a payout while it reviews suspected manipulation of a race (see Section 8).
5. Service fee
Renno charges a service fee of 15% of the forfeited entry fees in a race: the amounts forfeited by runners who missed the goal or left after the start. The fee is taken out of the forfeited entry fees before they are split among the runners who cleared the goal.
- The service fee never comes out of a clearer's own entry fee. If you clear the goal, you always get your full entry fee back.
- The fee rate is fixed for a race at the moment the race is created, and the app shows it before you pay. A later change to the rate never applies to a race that already exists.
- Races created from September 19 through September 23, 2026 carry a 10% service fee (Version 3). Races created before September 19, 2026 carry no service fee.
- No other amount is taken from entry fees. The processing fee in Section 2 covers payment costs only.
| Forfeited entry fees (13 × $5) | $65.00 |
| Service fee (15% of $65.00) | $9.75 |
| Prize pool split among the 7 clearers | $55.25 |
| Each clearer's share (rounded up to the cent) | $7.90 |
| Each clearer receives ($5.00 entry back + $7.90) | $12.90 |
6. Leaving a race
- Before the race starts, you can leave from the app and your entry fee is refunded to how you paid it: to your card, or back to your winnings balance for the part paid from winnings. Card refunds can take several business days to appear. The processing fee is not refunded.
- After the race starts, leaving forfeits your entry fee to the prize pool, exactly as missing the goal does.
6A. Rolling your entry into the next race
When you are in a paid round of a repeating race, the app lines up that race's next round for you ("Up Next"). In any other paid public race, nothing is lined up for you: the app recommends a race, and it becomes your Up Next race only if you line it up (or choose another open race) yourself. You can change or remove your Up Next race in the app at any time before your current race ends.
- If you clear the goal and have an Up Next race, Renno uses the entry fee you get back to enter you in it when your current race settles, but only if that race's entry fee is no more than the amount you get back. Anything left over stays in your winnings balance. If you miss the goal, nothing rolls over.
- Joining a repeating race means you keep going: each time you clear the goal, your entry rolls into the next round until you turn rollover off or the race stops repeating. Renno may send you a reminder before a rollover, but a rollover does not depend on it.
- You can turn rollover off in the app at any time before your current race ends ("Skip next race"). Your returned entry fee and any winnings then stay in your winnings balance.
- A rolled-over entry is a new entry in a new race, under the version of these Rules in force when that race was created, and it is paid from your winnings balance, so no processing fee is charged. If you leave it before it starts, the entry fee goes back to your winnings balance (Section 6).
- Apart from a rollover, a repeating race never enters you automatically: you join each round yourself.
7. Cancelled races
The creator of a race can cancel it while nobody has paid to enter. Renno can cancel any race before it settles, for example when a race cannot be run fairly. When a race is cancelled, every entry fee is refunded to how it was paid, and no service fee is charged.
8. Fair play
- Runs are verified by recomputing the recorded route on Renno's servers and by checking it against motion data from your device. Runs that are physically implausible, simulated, duplicated, or recorded from a vehicle are rejected.
- Manipulating or falsifying run data, using more than one account, or otherwise interfering with a race is a breach of the Terms of Service. Renno may reject the runs involved, hold or withhold payouts, remove you from a race, and suspend or close your account.
- If you believe a run or a race result is wrong, ask for a review in the app or contact legal@rennoapp.com.
9. Changes to these Rules
Renno may publish a new version of these Rules at any time. A new version applies only to races created on or after its effective date; a race you have already joined keeps the version shown when you joined it. The current version number is shown at checkout.
